“Trump Applauds Viktor Orbán as ‘Exceptional’ Guest at Mar-a-Lago Summit and Musical Extravaganza”

Donald Trump showered accolades on Viktor Orbán while hosting the Hungarian prime minister at Mar-a-Lago on Friday evening.

Addressing a gathered crowd at the Florida resort during a concert, the former president lauded Orbán, stating, “There’s no one better, smarter, or a more adept leader than Viktor Orbán. He’s truly fantastic,” as depicted in a series of videos shared on Orbán’s Instagram account.

Trump went on to characterize the European leader as a “noncontroversial figure” who decisively declares, “This is the way it’s going to be,” settling matters unequivocally. The former president emphasized Orbán’s authority, describing him as “the boss” and commending him as a “great leader” with widespread respect in Europe and globally.

Referring to the visit as “an honor,” Trump hinted at continued communication, mentioning that they “kept in touch” after his departure from the White House in 2021.

This interaction and Trump’s admiration for Orbán highlight the former president’s pattern of embracing authoritative figures on the global stage, sometimes at the expense of more conventional U.S. allies.

The ex-president convened with a select circle of confidants for an approximately hour-long encounter with Orbán on Friday night, according to sources acquainted with the situation, as reported by CNN. One insider characterized the meeting as a “social gathering” devoid of a specific agenda, while another source termed it as “amicable.”

According to a statement from his campaign, Trump engaged in discussions with Orbán to address a variety of issues impacting both Hungary and the United States. The talks reportedly focused on the critical importance of robust and secure borders to safeguard the sovereignty of each nation.

Sources informed CNN that Orbán actively sought the meeting with Trump and had prearranged his visit to the U.S. independently. Following their discussions, Trump accompanied Orbán to an exclusive tribute concert, part of a “members-only” event at the club. The concert featured tribute bands dedicated to The Beatles and Rolling Stones, along with a performance by the Palm Beach Symphony.

During the concert, captured in a social media clip, Orbán presented former First Lady Melania Trump with a sizable bouquet of flowers while the band played “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison, adding a touch of elegance to the evening.

The Biden administration, however, did not extend an invitation to Orbán for a meeting with President Joe Biden, and Orbán did not request one during his U.S. visit. Responding to questions about the Mar-a-Lago talks, Biden expressed concern, stating, “If I’m not, you should be.” This comment indicated his unease about the meeting between Orbán and Trump.

Orbán’s far-right populism, staunch anti-immigration stance, emphasis on Christian nationalism, and opposition to LGBTQ rights have made him an ideological figure admired by Trump’s “Make America Great Again” supporters. Orbán has previously spoken at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual gathering of pro-Trump forces, and Hungary is set to host another CPAC overseas conference in the coming month.

While the Biden administration largely refrained from commenting on Orbán’s meetings with Trump, President Biden addressed the visit during a rally in Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground for the 2024 general election. Biden highlighted Orbán’s statements against democracy and expressed a commitment to defending and not diminishing democratic principles in the face of such ideological challenges.
